The BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards

In case you missed it (or blocked me on Twitter for talking about it too much... if you did, it's okay... they're over... come back!) this time last week I was at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards where I was nominated for the Horizon Award.

I didn't walk away with the award on the night (well done to The Rails!) but being nominated was a huge accolade, and the experience was incredible.

I’ve come away having made some beautiful new friends, feeling far less isolated, and hugely encouraged by the whole thing.

Perhaps the biggest highlights for me were finding out just how lovely Cara Dillon and Sam Lakeman are, getting to sing "John Ball" with The Young'uns in the hotel bar at 3am, and talking for hours to Boff from Chumbawamba about Coleridge and songwriting.

The awards helped me realise that I’m really not the only person walking the path I’m on, and particularly to discover there are so many others balancing folk careers with young children and family finances! :)
