Songs From Today - Day 4

And so we've finished our time at Cecil Sharp House. The “Invisible Carers” song is likely to be added to 'Findings' and it seems very likely that “For All That You Leave Behind” will make it onto Steve Pledger’s next album :) So I think we can call that a resounding success!

The concert last night was lovely, and was a brilliant chance to perform not just these new songs but a wealth of other new material too!

And so, we leave you with our last song:

A nice cup of tea and some breakfast in bed

A song for Mother's Day! It was all over the papers today, and it was just about the only happy story we could find.

A nice cup of tea and some breakfast in bed
A treat for you mother my dear
Oh sweet little angels you spoil me so
I do love this day of the year

We made it ourselves oh mother my dear
We hope that the tea’s not too weak
How thoughtful my dears to use coffee as well
It certainly does taste unique

One slice of toast with both marmite and jam
We used all the things on the shelf
It goes so exceedingly well with my tea
I Could not have done better myself

We saved all our pennies oh mother my dear
To buy a few chocolates for you
Oh sweeties, my darlings you’ve done me so proud
Has this one already been chewed?

Oh How could I tell them that all that they do
Is cause me a great deal of strife
Although I confess they make nothing but mess
They are also the joy of my life

We went out to pick you a beautiful bunch
Of Flowers of every kind
Oh sweet little angels you spoil me so
I do hope the neighbours don’t mind

We made you a card with a poem inside
And a beautiful drawing of you
I like how you made up so many new words
And made me a size 22!

A special surprise on this mothering day
We’ve tidied and tried to wash up
Oh sweeties, my darlings at least you have tried
Never mind we can buy some new cups

The washing is on in the washing machine
And we put some shampoo In the drawer
How thoughtful my dears you’ve reduced me to tears
I don’t think I can take any more

Oh How could I tell them that all that they do
Is cause me a great deal of strife
Although I confess they make nothing but mess
They are also the joy of my life
