Recording, releasing and touring Findings with Lukas has been a high point of my career. I’ve loved it. It’s been an amazing journey... but my next release is going to be a solo album, and Lukas has many exciting plans for touring and travelling (which means he'll be out of the country for quite a lot of next year with his lovely lady), so we're not booking any duo dates for 2018.

The ever amazing Tamsin Rosewell, painter of folk songs, painted Kubla Khan as we recorded it on Esteesee. Today, on Coleridge's birthday, we thought it would be nice to share it.

A few weeks ago I asked on Twitter and Facebook for some suggestions of new things to listen to. The amount of suggestions was absolutely vast! So, I've de-duplicated them, found links, and presented them all here for us all to work our way through :) This isn't a comprehensive list of music, it's just a comprehensive list of the albums that were suggested to me.

A communal song where each line is written by twitter followers within the boundaries of the 140 character tweet!
Starting with just one man on the road... I wonder where his journey will take him?

The papers today were full of the story of Manfred Fritz Bajorat, a German sailor whose remarkably preserved remains were found by a fisherman in yacht off the coast of Phillipines. We found a collection of work by Barry Cornwall (1787–1874) in the Vaughn Williams Memorial library which included the line "death whenever he come to me shall come on the wide unbounded sea", and wrote the song for Manfred Fritz Bajorat around that phrase.

As a full time musician, and someone who has a very active role in organising and holding concerts myself, I think it's really important that we try and promote advance ticket sales. The independent folk shows that have been a huge support over the past two years and I really like the idea of sending listeners on a bit of a folk radio-show treasure hunt…! So I’ve compiled 14 independent radio shows than are on air in a consecutive order between Monday 17th August and Friday 28th August, and each station is going to play one exclusive track from the new album in consecutive order. Then on Monday 31st of August all the radio stations get the full CD to share with listeners before the official release on September 24th.

It’s been really hard to try and stay connected with everyone while I’m in the studio. Well I want to tell you about what came before and after it, because it was less 'an event' and more 'a gathering of souls' which was months in the planning, a whole weekend of merriment bookending the event, which itself lasted just a few short and surreal hours.

So yesterday we had an official diagnosis letter confirming our daughter (Amy, 11, full of beans, fun, all singing all dancing bundle of joyous and flappy excitement) has severe ADHD and dyslexia. (we are still waiting for a possible diagnosis of ASD). We started her on medication yesterday.

So, why am I blogging about this?

Today saw the start of my final week in the studio. Only 5 days left (five very long days, 10 hour days in fact! Starting at 8am and finishing at 6pm). I had to finish the final vocals tracks for five songs, The Tilling Bird, The Lament of the Black Sheep, The Foolish Heir, The Lost Soul and The Lullaby and managed to almost do four of them which was pretty good going. We now have four days to edit and mix the entire album! Eeeek!

I found myself having no choice but to chuckle as I waited in the queue in co-op for my pint of milk on the way to the studio today. A chap in front of me stood with no shirt on alongside his slightly roundish lady friend who was proudly donning a strappy top and a rather sore looking burn line around her neck… yes, the first day of sun has arrived and we are proud to be British! Hehe...

Epic day! It was incredible hearing the legend in the making, James Findlay, singing My songs! Amazing! His fiddle playing, bought out little accents in the songs that I didn't even know were there and as for his vocal work...well, just incredible. I can't wait to listen back to what we've done today.

So today we did lots of little fixes and a very amusing vocal on 'The Woolgatherer' I'm satisfied that I've really captured the heart of the song, unlike my vocal for 'The Cull' which I am afraid I will be needing to re-do. Win some lose some I guess... what I do know it that is has to be right. I will try again next week.

Oops! Look at my (guitar picking) finger! I just had the most lovely warm bath in the hope of warming through the aches in my shoulders after tracking guitar all day and the plug got stuck! I tried to pull it out and it wouldn't budge so I gave it my best tug, at that, the chain hook bent and flung up past my fingers taking chunks of skin with it...

Exciting times...I'm in the studio Next week recording my new album "Bare Foot Folk" which is due for release at the end of May.

'Bare Foot Folk' will be a 'true' representation of me as an artist, my roots. It will be just me and my guitar with a warm layer of vocal harmonies so that I can recreate each song live with my looping machine when on tour. No tricks. No 'fluff' just me...a folk singer songwriter, sharing my story.
