#FolkFavourite - FATEA

FATEA is an incredible folk resource and is, in my opinion, one of the most valuable and important platforms for emerging folk artists out there.

As well as being one of the most prolific reviewers on the scene with a team of fantastic writers covering the whole acoustic spectrum this online magazine also provides live reviews, folk shows, photography, blogs and many more fantastic resources. But there are two that I really want to highlight…

Firstly, the FATEA Showcase Sessions.

Every quarter, FATEA release a free online download  compilation album of emerging and spotlight artists. This is always an incredible collection of some of the best music out there, known and unknown.

“The Fatea Showcase Sessions are designed to provide greater exposure to artists that have impressed the Fatea team. Some are already signed, others are carving a solo trail, releasing songs on their own labels, all are dedicated to their music”

It does what it says on the tin! It has a huge following and a reach including many radio presenters and listening ears which can sometimes be all to hard to be heard by. A huge number of the featured artists have gone on to be nominated and win at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and many have gone on to make an strong mark on the acoustic scene. Wow! What a platform!

You can download the latest session here: http://www.fatea-showcase-sessions.co.uk

Secondly, The FATEA Awards.

Yearly, FATEA announce their nominees and winners  for their own folk awards judged by the team who put forward those who have impressed them over the year. Now here’s why I love these awards…

FATEA review albums inclusive of the entire acoustic spectrum, known, unknown, debut right through to very well known and when it’s time for awards, they ALL get considered. Every year, there will be brand new names, young debuts and well formed artists in the awards and most importantly, the music that has impressed the most wins. Simple. No public votes too…. Yay :) I love that the ‘underdog’ not only gets a chance but gets the same treatment and consideration and very often comes out on top. Bravo FATEA.

These awards do hold much weight and I should know, I built my career on them! Thank you FATEA!

So, It’s a big pat on the back to the whole team and I cannot close without naming the heart behind it all, Neil King does an incredible job, he has insight, heart, dedication, genuine interest and love for the music and artists and is an all round good (hard working) egg. We’d have a huge hole in the folk community without him and FATEA.

So, find them on Facebook, Twitter, listen to Neil’s show, Download the Sessions and Share the reviews. Lets keep this one alive, kicking and at the heart of folk.
